Its been a week or so since I signed up for LJ. For most of that week I haven’t given LJ a lot of thought, as I’ve been busy in non-wood projects. So I guess with all good beginnings, this one should start out with a little foundation work.

In the experience category I have very little. As a child I was only ever exposed to woodworking on the rare occasion through shop class or BSA arts and crafts. As an adult I moved around a lot and have never, until recently, had a fixed location to coalesce project ideas and tinker around in.

All of that changed 18 months or so ago when my wife and I bought our first house, a nice old 1905 colonial. When we were evaluating the house one aspect that appealed to me was an existing small wood working setup in the basement. While I had never been a woodworker, I was an accomplished tinkerer with all kinds of unusual things for some Live Action Role Playing games I participate in. At last, I thought to myself, a place to truly set up shop and work on accumulating all the tools and knickknacks that go along with a permanent workshop.

Fast forward to today and I am slowly adding a lot of woodworking tools and delving deeper and deeper into interesting projects with wood to augment my crafting and construction projects. While I will never work only in wood I am glad to finally be exposed to this world of woodworking knowledge and possibilities.

exciting times ahead. And what type of woodworking appeals to you – renovating your new home? building furniture? building accessories? sculptures? or – the sky is the limit?

.Welcome to Lumberjacks, this site is invaluable when you are starting up. Always plenty of advice, tool reviews and sounding boards for ideas. Take some pictures of the woodshop, it is always interests me to see where people do their woodworking.

Pax welcome to LJ’s, this too will become as addicting as woodworking. If you ever run into a problem or just have a question, (nothing is a stupid question here) just ask you will be amazed at the answers.
