I hope LJ will do something about this crook scammer. I receive many emails every day from this guy by using old projects and blogs to disguise his scam operation. This is really irritating and I am even tempted to turn off my email notification function in LJ to get rid of the problem. I don’t really want to do this, but I can’t think of any other way to solve the problem.

Can you give us some more info, Mike? What is his handle, what does he claim to want, what does he really want?

i just dump them when the land
10 to 20 a day

thought about closing notices too
not sure if that would clog my puter
when i do come back

best i can think of for this scammer

is vote him out in the coming election
but thoughts and prayers they jail him before then

I have had a couple also. At this point I am not overly concerned, but I agree. No need for this kind of stuff.

Is that the one that asks if you want to learn old-style woodworking, then you open his mail and he wants to sell you Teds 16000 woodworking plans? I am sick of Teds adds everywhere you open a woodworking page.

I’m also getting a ton of his annoying emails Mike. I think he’s sinking his own ship by the way he floods woodworking sites with his pushy annoying posts. He just makes people run the other way. His self destructing ways will hurt his sales most likely. I guess he’s just desperate and frustrated…. I’m installing metal detectors! LOL!

Orvill Yes, that’s the him! He’s been at it for years, but he seems to have learned new tricks to avoid getting blocked. I can’t remember who we should contact at LJ for help with this, but if anyone out there knows, please tell me in the comments below.

He changes ID so nukeing his LJ account will be a minor positive step, but they, not he, will be back (that’s a plural They, not a political/gender They). The interesting consistency is the 16,000 plans. There are a bunch of websites making the same pitch, same number of plans. I forget how I blocked them, I think I went in to gmail and prefilter based on something, maybe plan number. I also have a specific separate account for any registration related to vendors. That catches 90%. Lately I get more from Woodpeck than anyone else. Fine Woodworking still loves me and will take me back.

Mike, Cricket is the one to contact but trust me she knows and is engaged in the battle.

Grasshopper was my best guess Paul. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess I will try the filters or at least get my son to do it for me. My Email skills are almost non-existent.

G’Day Mike, I’ve got quite a few from the spammer too.
Cricket seems to have been very active at working to fix him as per the note often attached to the actual post saying “spammer do not interact”...
I also “BLOCK” him on his LJ’s home page

Not a very good fix since we still get all the notifications, but probably not Crickets fault as I can see that it might not be so easy to fix. Ted has probably put a lot of thought into how to get away with this.

The problem I see is that “they” never get dumped from the site. Just adding “Scammer, do not interact” is not an answer. All these new spammers help to increase the number of members on this site which pushes revenues. When Martin ran the site, the spammers/perverts were removed which also removed all their posts. None of the posts seem to be eliminated. Posts remain but some are blank.

I received 45 notifications in just one day. If you notice, the jock’s handles all start with woodwork and then usually add 4 more letters to the name. I would think that Cricket or whoever actually does the partial removal would have something to flag and recheck all new jocks using a name starting with woodwork.

LJs has nearly 300,000 jocks and rarely over a dozen project posts and three or four blogs in any given day. I guess we need Ted’s scams just to keep the site alive!

L/W Sounds logical to me. I have also noticed the heavily declining number of posts on LJ and your assumptions could very well be correct. Nonetheless I still like the functionality and user friendliness of the site and it is still for the most part pretty user friendly. I can’t understand that ‘TED’ is getting any real benefit from his posts, but maybe there are some who don’t know his history and fall for his scheme.
