Bureaucrat
I am also a Bureaucrat! I have declared my 4ft. by 4ft. work space in the family garage a sovereign nation in which I am the sole resident and ruler of. That probably made no scene at all.

Welcome to LJ’s. I am from far western South Dakota. Wish I had your trees. You’ve come to the right place for advice and displaying your projects.

Emma, welcome to LJs. Hmmm 4’ x 4’ space is a great start. Spend too much time here and you will need more than that just for tools. This place is very addictive!
Seriously, whether you are a handtool person, a power tool person, you want or are into carving, veneering, cabinet maker – from artestry to production sawmills, or anything in between, there are people on this site doing it – worldwide.
The best part is that most will give you great advice, sometimes a little tongue in cheek.
There are forums on sharpening your planes (or any other blade), tuning your planes, making bow saws and hand planes, to making water buckets, and veneering – even pictures of boat building (see shipwright). If it is wood related, its in here somewhere.
good luck
