I haven’t done a real time blog in a long time. Time to do one. I’m using my phone for pictures for the first time so we’ll see how that goes… I’m bulding a pair of school buses for grandkids birthdays. The first one starts school this fall. The second one will be given in 2 years. I started with a set of plans from Toys & Joys . The first thing I did was redraw it at half size. After getting the wood cut to the various thicknesses (3/4”, 3/8&...

I pre dyed the radiator parts to keep colors from bleeding. A few details got altered with the half-size design. One alteration is I needed a small relief in the hood for tire clearance. After building up the hood blanks I cut the relief in each side. Then add the radiators Next up was the fenders. I decided to make headlights from some stick on “pearl” decorations I got from a craft store. I needed to cut them to size. The first couple took ...

Next was framing the windows. I should have taken a few more pictures here. There are a few steps covered by this photo. The blank on the lower right was the first step. I clamped the sides to the floors so I could get the fronts, backs, and side door fitted. The backs were cut to size and a groove cut for the door outline. Saw blade set at 45 degrees was the set up. The window openings were cut into the sides The side doors got a center groove And then cut to size Holes drilled for internal windows And ...

Took a day off from the build. Then started back at it! Started to drill locations for the lights. Found out I had spaced them too close. Patched the hole and drilled the rest. I wasn’t thinking about grain direction when I cut the end caps for the roof. I had more than one split apart while drilling. Glued and held together with tape. Glued on a filler piece that wasn’t going to be added until later. Added some strength but will require some fitting la...

The last 4 days are covered here. Glued the seats in place along the first wall. Put some finish on that side as well. Won’t be able to do this once the roof is on. Second wall added Then the seats Used spacers to locate the driver’s seat Added more finish. I’ll need to touch up the front once the front wall is in place. Then glue in the back wall. Inside face is prefinished. Then front wall and the top rail of the windshie...
