Hi everyone,For the last few weeks (don’t remember exactly how long), most pictures on these forums have not been showing. The only clues that there should be pix are statements like, “Here’s a pic of ….. ”, “This is the ….. ”, and “Here is ….. ” (fill in the banks with whatever i...

When you’re not working wood, do you Play Well?LEGO = Danish for Play Well.Who else visits Eurobricks as well as Lumberjocks?Or shops at a LEGO Store as well as at a Rockler or the Borg? I’ve built many things over the years, but took pix of only a few, most notably the Slope House. A Vignette. (click on the pic to see more) ...

Apostrophes in quotes going AWOL. - 7 replies

Hi all,Whenever I quote a message, any apostrophes get replaced with spaces. Why?Is it to combat the misuse/abuse of the apostrophe? E.g. Flower’s instead of flowers, it’s instead of its, etc. But that does not make sense, because legit apostrophes are removed likewise also.Did an errorist hack into the LJ server?Remember, when you m...

New acquisition: Davis And Wells 12" Table Saw. - 9 replies

Got this Davis and Wells 12” Table Saw on January 4. As you can see, the serial no. is 910. The seller said it is probably from the 1940s. Is it?Has a Baldor 2.5HP motor. Takes 120V. No indication whether it can be wired for 240V. I installed a 120V 30A circuit to run this machine. I could not get a decent pic of the motor’s namep...

Using furnace blower for homemade DC? - 8 replies

Hi Jocks, My Mom had her furnace replaced last spring, and I saved the old one, not knowing what I might do with it. I was thinking, maybe use the blower from it, in a homemade dust collector. I don’t know what the horsepower or amp ratings on it are; the clamp band that holds the motor in place is covering most of the nameplate. It h...

Best hollow chisels for PM701? - 13 replies

Hi all,I just ordered a Powermatic PM701 last night, and have a few Qs:Does it come with any hollow chisels and bits (HC&B)? Is that what they are called? It looks like it does, but I just wish to be sure.Is there a better sharpening option than the included sharpening cone? What make/model HC&Bs work best with the PM701? I was going to o...

Why do 10" tabe saws have less than 3-1/2" cutting capacity? - 8 replies

This is something I have questioned for over a decade. Most 10” TS’s have a cut capacity of 3-1/8 – 3-1/4” I just checked the SawStop website; all their models have 3-1/8” cut cap. Why is that? What’s wrong with being able to cut a 4×4 in a single pass? Or gang-X-cut a bunch of 2×4s on edge in one go...

Site for selling used tool parts? - 5 replies

Is there a site for selling used tool parts?Say, you have a tool that you cannot get parts for anymore, or the parts it needs are prohibitively expensive, so instead of scrapping it or trashing it, you could part it out, and make a few bucks in the process.A web search did not yield splat. I know, there’s Craigslist, eBay, and the like, bu...

Question about using metal turning lathe for turning wood. - 8 replies

This is a question about whether it’s good at all to use a metal turning lathe for wood turning.I do not have a lathe now. I plan to eventually get one. I would also like to get into metalworking, So, instead of getting separate lathes for turning wood and metal, I would rather do both with one machine. To save shop space, resources, and $...
