Drawer slide question. - 12 replies

Afternoon all. My gents dresser is nearing completion, almost. I’m in the process of building the drawers. Any drawers I’ve built in the past have been fairly small and as such I did not add slides. The dresser on the other hand has 3- 35wx19dx7h” drawers. I’m concerned that they may be difficult to open when fully loaded. While I’m not fon...

Joinery issue - 7 replies

The Gents dresser I’m making has a solid shelf in the middle. In its construction it has full thickness panels (7/8”) running at right angles to the framework. All joints are young and groove. For whatever reason I glued everything together….frames and panels. Still not sure why I did that. Bottom line is those panels are going to mov...

How do I post to joke of the day? - 2 replies

The local news station was interviewing an 80-year-old lady because she had just gotten married for the fourth time. The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 80, and then about her new husband’s occupation. “He’s a funeral director,” she answered. “Interesting,” the newsman thought. ...

Tenon size - 4 replies

Morning all. I’ve started he Gentleman’s dresser ( from Woodsmith). I’m a bit concerned with the tenon size for the panel construction. The drawing calls for a 3/8×3/8” tenon and associated mortise. While I’m no cabinet maker, that looks like a heart break in the making. Now that I’ve cut my material to length I’m kinda buggered. I go...

General 25-200 - 8 replies

About a week ago I overloaded my lathe with an un balanced load and too high of a speed (ya I know always check first). Now it does nothing . No noise or display. Almost certain it’s electronics. General as everyone knows is now defunct. Canadian Woodworker carries an identical machine (Rivolver Wl-200).They said they “may” be able to get...

General 25-200 lathe - 3 replies

Afternoon folks. As it says in the title I have a 5 yr old General 25-200 Midi lathe. So I had a 3-3 1/2” slice off a Cherry tree stump. Rough turned it to about 1 1/2”. Turned it at low speed as it was so unbalanced. Left it for about a month. Loaded it into the chuck, made sure everything was cleared, hit the start button. I...

Bed frame construction - 14 replies

Ok lets try this again. I added a post yesterday re: a King bed I’m making. The attached drawing was crappy at best as was my description, so I thought I’d try it again. After a fair bit of research I’e decided to use through bolts and faux tenons to secure the rails to the head board/foot board. I find I’m second gue...

bed bolts again - 2 replies

Is i’m finally starting to move forward on the bed project. It amazes me how busy I am doing nothing. I’ve decided to go with through bolts to secure the legs to the side rails. The bolt heads will be covered by faux tenons. The legs are 1 7/8 thick, the rails are 1 5/8 X 8 1/2”. After much searching I find there is no sta...

Afternoon all. Im looking for a back issue of a wood working magazine. It featured a full construction article of a “Gents Chest” or a “Gents Cabinet”. Glue question - 20 replies

Morning all. Has anyone brushed a bit of water into their mortise and tenon joint prior to applying the glue , Ie:Titebond 3? I’ve read this will increase the open time of the joint. I’ve just spent $30 for a bottle of old brown glue and I’d prefer to return it if possible. My glue up is a bit extensive, maybe 1/2 hr tops. Thanks.
