Project Information

When I saw the Bridge City KM-1 Kerfmaker last week I thought it was an elegant solution to cutting precise dados and grooves! After watching the YouTube video I realized there wasn't much to it. The rosewood unit here is my third version. The rosewood takes on a beautiful luster when polished. I use my machine lathe to cut and knurl the brass bits. All fasteners are machine screws as opposed to wood screws.
This is the only forum where I've found other similar tools.
It works great! There's nothing worse than cutting the groove to wide and this tool saves on the trial and error setup time. May build some more and put them on eBay for fun.

best i've seen yet! you could definitely sell these, if you could somehow keep the price down…maybe sell in sets to achieve that better. I think people would pay $30-50 for a set, I don't know how that translates to your overhead, but I'd be interested to hear your analysis of it. great job either way, Someone will have the most gorgeous kerf tool out there for decades if not centuries to come. I bet eventually people like us in the future will be posting pictures of it all beat up on some forum asking "what the Heck is this thing?" =] seriously though, it seems like you easily have the capability, you should put some sort of marker/serial # on the brass and stamp/burn your logo/name onto the wood…i think that would be sweet!

Great Job,
I also designed a bunch out of acrylic. I really like how you done the Offset pin and the Mainframe lock.
You've given me some more ideas..:) Thanks for sharing. They are not patented, supposedly they've apllied for a US one but that don't count in Canada anyhow, if they do get it.
I assure you yours will sell..!

Chris, this looks really good. The combination of wood and brass gives this tool an upscale look and the rosewood is simply gorgeous.

Nice post. These should sell without a problem.
