Project Information

I was goofing off on the lathe today, and with nothing more to turn than a few small pieces of redwood I popped this thing out. I have a desire to make a full size hollow form sometime, so this was a bit of practice… I custom ground a tool just to hollow this bad boy out. I would say the thickness is around 1/32" or so… probably 3/32" on the bottom.

I think I may be able to get the title of world's smallest vase.

Nice job and I think you get the title!

How did you chuck that, just use a big piece of redwood and work on a corner of it?

I had a piece of redwood cut square about 1" and about 5" long… chucked it up and turned the end of the blank into the piece… The hollowing was done through a hole a bit larger than 3/16" which is about as small as I could go with the custom scraper.
