Project Information

Tested my woodworking skills on another wooden lock, this time a combination lock. The shank was the most difficult to shape. As you can see in one photo had to start over one. The tumblers were a test as they had to be exactly cut in order for the lock to work. There was a lot of precision sanding and mill work in this lock. The lock actually works; opening and closing smoothly.
The book "Making Working Wooden Locks" by Tim Detweiler was the inspiration for this project.
If you would like follow the link below to my Google Photos page where I have a video of the lock in action.

Love it. I have made the wooden locks with the keys and they too came from his book. My goal at one time was to try them all. Life got in the way. Have to say I have tried selling my locks and have sold only one. People like to play with them but not to buy. You gave me inspiration to try these. Nice work.

I'm thinking maybe if you made a nice box and locked it up with your wooden lock maybe those would sell.

Hey pottz! Nice to see that you got a kick out of my comment! I also think that lock is super cool! I know that the mechanics must be made just right for it to work well and I bet MasterSergeant did it right! But I'm also thinking maybe he should get termite insurance! LOL!

With mine I added a clock insert in them and thought they would sell as a desk clock. But did not happen.
