Project Information

I have had a lathe for many years but struggled with turning wood because I did not know what I was doing. So I finally took a class at Woodcraft on beginning wood turning about two months ago. It was great. I also have read books by Mike Darlow and Richard Raffan and watched videos from Raffan. I still don't know what I'm doing but I am having fun trying. My wife keeps buying more bowl blanks and I keep turning. I have given several away as wedding presents, house warming gifts and thank you gifts. The list of Christmas presents keeps growing. I have also made some improvements on my 1950's era lathe. I upgraded to a 1 HP motor, and added a tachometer so I don't have to guess at the turning speed.

Now that's a healthy addiction to have.
Really like how deep and straight sided the red bowl is in the first picture.
Well done.
I struggle as a turner but I'm sure a lot has to do with the fact that I have a weak lathe, dull tools and hard touch.
Saving up my money to buy a cheater carbide turning tool since I do enjoy it even though I haven't had much success.
