Project Information

This box is designed for 4×6 recipe cards. The hinges are from Teak and Peroba Rosa which I cut into strips and glued together, the idea being to create more strength at the stress points and add interest. The hinges don't match as well as I planned in that I inadvertently flipped one over before gluing.

Anyway, the top is floating and made from Teak and maple strips, the body is maple.

Thanks for looking.

nice job. The wooden hinges are on my list of things to do on a future box but I have yet to try to build them.

Nice box! I don't think I have seen wooden hinges inlaid into the box like that. Now, I need to try inlaying hinges!

A fine box. Always pleasing to see wooden hinges and these are well done.

Thanks again everyone for your comments. One thing I'm considering doing is using thin flat brass stock sandwiched between wood strips in future hinges. It would be extra insurance against breakage and could look good as well.
