Project Information

Here is a wine rack that I made for my boss for Christmas. He not only loves wine, but also races Indy cars, so it has a race-car theme. Special thanks to LarryS, from whom I borrowed the plans for the rack portion. The first iteration had the upright built to hold 6 bottles, but the hole spacing was off due to a misprint on Laryy's plans and the bottles did not fit next to each other. Talk about a stand-up guy, Larry had the hole spacing recalculted for me the next day, and the repairs turned out fine. I modified the plans to only hold 4 bottles, and this way it can fit under the kitchen cabinets.

The car profile was my own layout. I cut the shape out of 1/2-inch stock on the band saw and then sliced it re-saw style into 2 pieces, so they would be a mirrored match. The whole thing is red oak stained with two different colors just to add a bit of variation and finshed with gloss and semoigloss poly.

thanks for looking - and thanks to Larry for all his help (the boss loved it)! Yes - the wine was included.

Nice work, can I ask what the overall height is? I'm wondering if I have enough clearance on the counter for something like this.

Looks great. I like the idea of a height to fit under cabinets. I promise to be more careful with any drawings I post in the future.

A10GAC - it is about 13 inches or so - I gave it away so I can't give you an exact number. I borrowed the plans from LarryS here: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/23657 and just shortened the top part.

Thanks, I think I just added another project to my ever growing list. So many cool ideas and never enough hours in the shop.
