Project Information

This box is made out of Black Walnut, Light Walnut, Purpleheart and Poplar. The hand cut double dove-tails couldn't have been done without the help of Woodhacker's blog. (Thanks Martin!) It took several tries to get it right. The hinges were hand cut out of Purple heart. The box is 15" x 10" x 5" and will hold two bottles of wine. I made it so after Christmas the Bottle holders can come out and it can be used to keep what ever else you want in it.

Nice stuff. That box displays at least 3 major skills, executed with amazing craftmanship.

Is that an Incra joint?

I just finished a wine bottle box and now that I've seen yours mine looks like, well you know. I didn't think of putting a holder to secure the bottle from moving. Now I want to get mine back and make it right. Thanks for showing me the way.
Today….. You Da Man.

Chris, excellent job! I'm humbled to have been mentioned as a part of your success with this box. It looks phenomenal. Those dovetails are really tight. Oh, and I love those hinges…I want to try those in the future.
I've never thought of using purpleheart with walnut, but you've "nailed it" with this wood combination. Your brother/sister-in-law are going to love it.

Thanks for posting it.

Chris, that is one beautiful box. Having recently ventured into the wonderful world of boxes, you have definitely given me inspiration as well as raised the bar. Very impressed with the overall design, the double DT's and the wooden hinges. You have been added to my Favorites for motivational purposes.

That is really fine work. I hope he doesn't waste that beautiful box by housing a Dremel tool. It deserves better than that.

Beautiful. I love the contrasting colors. Well done. Are those hand made hinges? Can't tell from the photo.
