Project Information
It's been pretty cold here in the Midwest so my time in my cold shop (But not for long, shop renovation project coming soon) has been limited. I wanted to do a project (but not a big one) until the weather got a smidge warmer. I ran across this in one of my woodworking magazines and thought I would make them. The wife loves decorating and re-decorating the rooms of our house so this one was right up her alley.
There's not a whole lot to this project. It's simple 45 degree mitres, some crown and trim cap moldings with a little lattice to 'build up' the top crowns. I assembled the box of these cornices with the Kreg system (I've been dying to make something with it). The moldings were attached with 3/4 inch brads and a pneumatic nailer. (Also dying to use!).
They are attached to the wall using cleats and more pocket holes. That system made mounting them super easy!
I've attached a 'before' and 'after' shot to show the difference. I think for such a simple project the effects are pretty dramatic. The wife and all her friends and relatives love them. I might actually get to make some of these for money.
Cost of this project was right at $100.00 for all the materials which were purchased at one of the big 'home stores'. I would love to hear what your thoughts and comments.
Thanks,
Matt
