Project Information

Inspired by Paul Sellers winding sticks design, I thought I would take a stab at it myself. I made these from mahogany. The inlay strip and center dowels are black walnut. The tab inlays are hard maple. I finished them with amber shellac and a light coat of finishing wax. I probably watched Paul Sellers' videos 5 or 6 times to copy his technique. I think they turned out well and they are absolutely flat and straight. Should come in handy for 4 squaring stock.

I like that design, and you crafted them beautifully. I really should get off my butt and make some too.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for you comments. I have no idea which species of mahogany they are. I get my lumber from my local Woodcraft store and I'll typically snatch up anything that's out in the front of the store, deeply discounted because it's less than 6 feet. I would guess given how cheap it was ($6.90/BF ) it's probable sourced close to Florida, implying it's from Central America. The grain looks like Honduran Big Leaf mahogany, but that's a complete guess.

Nice job! I watched those episodes a couple of weeks ago and am gathering the materials to build a pair myself. Yours came out great.
