There is a tradition in Wales where men carve a wooden spoon for their sweetheart as a token of their love. The designs often include symbols like locks, keys, hearts, etc. Do a image search on "Welsh Love Spoons" to see examples. This is a basswood spoon I carved after a visit to Wales. The figure at the top is the griffon from the flag of Wales.
