Project Information

this is a very special box i have made for a wonderful friend who lives in alaska, he looks into my account here so ive had to cover his name that i have inlayed into the top, so please excuse the tape, it is called waves of friendship because of the waves in the figured walnut and because of the special friendship i have with this person, i made this box from some beautiful walnut i had that came from the same board i made my desk from, , so the top is walnut and cypress and red cedar , and the end of each top piece is mahogany, the sides are mahogany and the inside is a piece of spalted pecan that i carved out, and it is secured into place with indian laurel, the lifts are spalted oak and indian laurel with a thin strip of bloodwood, i got the idea of this shape and design from our wonderful box maker Andy, and i thank him for inspiring me, the finish is a mix of danish oil,wax and thinner, it was applied with a piece of cut up sponge, left to dry for half a day and then buffed to a final gloss. thank you for any who take a look and for any comments made. grizzman

Grizz, the walnut in the top is spectacular. That is the prettiest bottom I have seen inside a box. Do you need some type of stop to take the pressure off the hinges? Interesting combination of woods. I guess you have your new shop built. Keep boxing and keep posting.

A really special one, Bob. I like it a lot. Great use of the various woods. And the interior bottom is a great idea, and really well done. One can do a lot worse than to pick up ideas from Andy.

Sweet looking box, Bob! I really like the way you formed the depressions on the inside, creating the divider. How ever receives this will cherish it forever!
