Project Information
Ok, here's a more serious project…..
This is a Christmas gift project I made for my in-laws this week.
It's 30" wide, 15" deep and will be 18" tall once the wheels are on. It's solid walnut except the drawer sides that are made from cherry.
Good test of woodworking skills such as mortise & tenon joints for the legs & aprons. The legs were laminated together, then tapered with a new shop made tapering jig for the table saw. A nice design feature is the colonial bead around the apron. Bottom floating shelf is supported by Kreg screws and designed to hold the cable box and DVD player.
This was the first time I tried half-blind mortises on the Leigh jig. Once set up, it's not too bad to make these. I must admit, it took awhile to get the set-up, fit & tolerancess just right. The legs are "double" supported by using Kreg screws as it will get a lot of lateral pressure by being rolled on a carpet. Finish is dark walnut Danish oil.
We're still choosing the drawer pulls.
Fun little project. Great way to spend a few days off.
