Project Information

We tore down a wall and installed a bookshelf base for this walnut tabletop.

I overbuilt the base because I wanted to adequately support this massive top.
Dimensions are 46" wide, 56" long and over 1.5" thick

The walnut was air dried for two years. It worked very well with hand tools. After flattening with planes, it took little sanding to get it ready for finish.

I glued up the slab with West Systems epoxy.

Nice , I like the way the sapwood and heartwood look together. Some cut it off, in you case it adds to the beauty.

Anyway you can add a pic of the base? Would love to see the whole thing.

WoodchuckerNJ - I don't have any good pictures of the base. I knocked it together out of 2×4s and sheeted it with 3/4" plywood. Overkill for sure but this sucker isn't moving! Ever…

I added a SketchUp view of the base. I like to work through my projects in SU before building them. It helps me to figure out a build order and I can work on the efficiency of a design.

Thanks everyone for the views and commenting :) This has been the most amazing Lumberjocks post I've ever put up!
