Project Information

This is a pistol box made with walnut. I used poplar for the drawers and birch ply for the drawer bottoms. Hand cut dovetails on the box and the drawers. They didn't turn out perfect but good enough. I put Rifle arms in the top portion so that you could clean a rifle at the box too. They are held in place by two thumb bolts that screw into the case. I like how the sap wood comes together on the front. It was made out all scrap wood left over from other projects.

Nice Job, Nate… Handsome, functional… I wish I had as nice a box when I used to go powder burning!! I only had a small tool tote type of thing… :-(
Merry Christmas, my Friend!!

Very cool box….you should add something to put the sand bags on to hold it steady though then you can use it at the range to dial in your scope or sights. Not know ing what you will be shooting but my range box has two slide out panels that allow me to sand bag or clamp it down when firing and it is great for sight alignment. The cleaning idea is also very nice….though I usually have to hold the barrel up so that I can get a good ram with the brush and patches….once again depends on what you are shooting (copper jackets or lead shot).

All in all though that is a beautiful project…great idea and great execution.

Very nice use of the sapwood/heartwood contrast in walnut.
