Project Information

I had a peace of 12×4x4 walnut I got from turningblank.net. I was not sure what to do with this piece and decided that a pencil holder would be the ideal candidate. I rub turned it and then let it dry for 6 weeks or so. Then I finished it with a Tung oil finish. There were some cracks in the wood but I did nit even bother to fill it since it just a pencil holder. Was a quick and fun project.

Very nice. Now you will have to use different woods to make some pens to display in it. ;-)

Thank you, I'm still very new at turning and don't know about pens. Do you know id there is some documentation or training classes on this.

I just started turning, one of the first things I did was a bunch of pens. They are absolutely EASY. A caveman can do it.

I actually do not like doing them because it takes less than 10 minutes to make a pen. I like to get into my work for a bit longer than 3 minutes of turning and 7 minutes of putting it together, but, if you want the satisfaction of doing something beautiful in a short time and being able to complete the whole job in under 10 minutes, its good stuff.
