Project Information

My father Stanley ventured to Switzerland a few years back and picked up an amazing musical movement. He then designed a box around it creating this unique piece. This one-of-a-kind box houses the Swiss movement, playing the song "Memories."

In burl walnut with cherry accent this box features miniature bracket feet and an intricate hand carved monogrammed tracery applique.

My father made it for my mother one year as a gift. It's now a family heirloom and on display in their home as an example of the custom boxes we can provide.

It's fun having the combined efforts of several artists in our shop. We all keep coming up with projects from different angles plus our commissioned work and restorations. I've been trying to ensure we document them all and have a record of what our creative development has been.

The Walnut burl really stands out on this piece.
Is there a false bottom for it?
From the looks of the trip wire, it appears that it is only to play

Yes it's a play box - open it the music plays - the movement is the feature of the interior. It doesn't have a space for any other storage.

What's really neat is it plays the full "Memories" from Cats … the WHOLE song !
