Project Information
This magazine rack is sure not to be found in the big box store. The species used in creating this unique piece are Black Walnut for the frame and base. The cross sections to hold your favorite reading materials is Spalted Maple. This magazine rack utilizes simple but effective joinery. The Spalted Maple is half lapped into the Walnut frame, then secured with shop made dowels of African Paduak. All of the corners are "softened" which gives way to a look of something truly made by hand. The joints were call cut and shaped using a Japanese Dozuki handsaw, and very sharp Swiss chisels. This rack will hold up to 4 magazines. In the gallery photo Ive positioned of soft cover book (150 pages+) and three magazines behind the book. The finish is several hand applied coats of a oil mixture. The back is made secure by two Walnut hanging strips that are predrilled at a angle for ease in attaching to any wall of your home or office.
This piece measures 12"widex 13tall, and projects out from the wall approximatley 2 7/8 ".
