Project Information
Have finally installed recently completed kitchen countertop. It's made of two walnut glue-up panels, each with an extension which meet behind the oven range and are connected with a countertop connector. The seam is behind the oven and not really visible. The panels are 25" × 13" and 25" × 37" and 1-3/4" thick. Trim: 1/4" 45° bevel for easy cleaning. Finish: sanded to 220, stained with Minwax "Golden Oak" to stabilize the color followed by eight coats of Waterlox with light sanding after every three coats and before the last one. The stain hasn't changed the color of the wood; hopefully, it'll help to preserve the dark color for longer. It is my first completed woodworking project to be used (and abused
on a daily basis. It's been fun to work with walnut since day one when I brought the boards from the lumber yard.
