Project Information

This is a Walnut & Curly Maple jewelry chest that was comissioned for my cousin's girlfriend who has alot of necklaces. A little different than what I am used to but it was such a pleasure to take on something different and stretch my skills a little. The vertical drawers ( I needed a duplex camera I guess ) have necklace hooks on each side of each drawer, providing 28 altogether for her…......... should be enough I think. All drawers are lined with suede cloth and the dividers in the drawers are removable. The finish is 4 coats of Danish oil and then 3 coats of Black Bison wax hand rubbed. Dimensions are: 18×16 x 10

Bravo…

Can you give us some info on how the horizontal drawer fronts are attached? A drawer lock joint as on the verticals?

That's a fine piece of maple…..

Tks….

Thanks for the wonderful comments guys, I appreciate it…...... I deliver the box tomorrow so…... we'll find out if she likes it.

Caver….Yes, the horizontal drawers are also done with the drawer lock / lap lock joint. I obviously did a stopped joint on the front of the drawer to keep it more clean looking.

I concur with the above posts. You have excellent woodworking skills. That is a superb looking jewelry chest. If I could make something half that nice I would be happy. Great job!!!

Beautiful work, Gene. The wax should do the trick of adding some more protection (I saw your project post after answering your PM).

But back to the woodworking part of this piece. That top is the shi…nola! Really spectacular use of the primary woods in the project, and something very special and original. Gutsy to do inset drawers with perfect reveals. You took the time to truly purpose the drawers with dividers and to line everything so cleanly.
Patience, great design and flawless execution. This is State Fair blue ribbon work.

And as gbvinc noted, damn fine photo work too.

This is what I have been looking for to make for my Daughter and Daughter in Law for Christmas. I hope I can get enough information from you picture, it perfect. I'll also need this much time to draw it and build it. You have done a magnificent job.
Thanks for Sharing your talents…

Beautiful work! I don't think I'll show this to the wife until I run out of projects - she'll want one ASAP!
