Project Information

This sculpted rocking chair is built from 2'' Canadian Black Walnut accented with Ebony plugs. This is a medium version ( 5' 7'' - 5' 11'' ).

This chair has 2 unique features that make it stand out even next to one of our other rocking chairs.

First the leg/headrest design borrows more form the Maloof design with legs extending like horns and with a more stylized bottom curve to the headrest but still using a coopered headrest to keep the grain lines matched to the seat and arms.

Second we used a beautiful piece of Zebra wood, sliced it into 2.29mm thick grain matched pieces and used it as the rear lamination to add a very unique contrast to the Walnut.

Features
- form fitting flexible back braces
- coopered headrest
- exposed Maloof joinery
- hand carved seat, arms, and joints
- Beautiful grain matched Zebra wood highlighted back braces

What we noticed is that doing the headrest like this it adjusts the sizing, I would say the tallest a person should be for this chair is 5' 9, because the headrest swoops down not up like our previous chairs.

Were calling this Inspiration 2.0 what a beautiful chair! Oh so comfortable the best yet in my opinion which does not matter to much as we've only built 10 of these, maybe when i've built 100 it will have some weight behind it.

Thanks everyone for having a look

This is so far out of my league it's not funny. My wife loves rocking chairs (and says she wants to grow old with me, sitting on the porch and rocking) so I buy her a miniature rocker for each anniversary. One of these days it would feel good to present her with something like you have built. Very nice piece!

I'm telling ya check out Hal Taylors site he sells templates and instructions that this chair is based off of, my other chairs on here are almost straight from those plans.

If you were close to me you could build one at my shop, I would show you how! If not jsut give it a go one day soon but at least have a look at what Hal offers, his instructions are very detailed every step more so then other plans you can buy. I must say it's a very rewarding experience building these chairs.

Another beauty, Paul. I especially love the Zebrawood detail and the dramatically curved headrest.

You are definately a master artist with wood, I look at what you have accomplished and can only dream that someday I may be able to do a project half as nice.
