Project Information

This is another jewelry box made out of walnut and figured maple with ash drawers and dividers. . The finish is super blond shellac and dark and clear briwax. I spent about 7 hours on the finish. The rub out was with 240, 320, 400, 600, 800 grits and steel wool with dark briwax. One final coat of briwax was added at the end. The drawers are lined with self stick felt. The knobs are stainless steel. The side doors use rare earth magnets to remain closed.

What I learned on this project…Never wrap your finished product in a plastic wrap and leave in the car. The briwax must not have been fully cured and the plastic wrap fused to the jewelry box ruining the finish. It took me another three hours to rub out the defects. So total finish time was about 10 hours.

Ya done good there George …
I like the fluted stiles and the routed feet. Of course the curved front looks a lot like my belly, but it's a nice touch for this elegant piece.
Great choice of woods to show off the grains.

Sorry to hear about your plastic mishap! One mistake you'll probably not make again!

Outstanding project. I had a bad experience wrapping a leather couch in stretch wrap and left it in the sun - The wrap fused onto the leather. We ended up giving it away….
