Does that QR code do anything, or is it just random?

Welcome to Lumberjocks, you will find all kinds of talents, knowledge, skills etc.

You have a lot of patience to glue/paste the pieces on one by one! I am assuming that you mount these to a fabric because you said you could roll it up.

I have just looked at your website. Your creativity is astounding. No idea how you can turn out such a volume of intricate work. The art world is not an easy one and very sensitive to the economic cycle but you surely just need a better outlet if the current ones are not serving you well.
Cheers,
David

The QR Code is like a bar code except it's made up of squares instead of stripes.
I'm told that they're ubiquitous in Japan, increasingly taking over the place of bar codes in Europe and just starting to catch on in North America.
If you have a smart phone, you can install an app that will scan these codes for the 'hidden' message.
It will scan off of your computer monitor, just as well as it works scanning the 45" wall hanging in real life.
I've made a few of these. Some small ones that are just one word of inspiration and 3 big ones.
The one I posted here says, when scanned,
If it weren't for coffee I'd have no discernible personality at all.

I had it hanging in the local Starbucks for awhile but so few people know what a QR Code is that it didn't make a very big impression.

David Australia,
Things were going along swimmingly for about 10 years until the venue responsible for about 90% of my sales was forced to close it's doors, due to a series of unfortunate events.
It was called the BC Wood Co-op, located in what is arguably the best retail location in western Canada.
In 2008 they sold 98 of my pieces. Not all big ones like the pics I've posted but still….
Anyway, I'm now in 14 or 15 galleries and craft stores but sales are deadly slow these days.
Like millions of other people I'm waiting and hoping for an upswing in the economy.

Wes, welcome to LJ's. These are beautiful and technically very advanced. Could you tell us what the materials used were?

I use about 50 different species. Whatever I can get my hands on that has interesting colour or figure.
If it looks like purple heart or bloodwood or wenge, chances are, that's what it is.

Really Cool! I like the QR code. I look for those everywhere, I wasn't suprised to hear that people didn't know what it was. You are ahead of the times. Give it a couple more years and it will catch on in the states. I hope you can find A new outlet to sell you art.

I couldn't imagine how much time and patience it would take to create a work like that. That is some amazing stuff.

Thanks Larry,
I just looked thru your projects. You've done some fantastic stuff.
You're a true inspiration.
I've done some boards but not lately. Might be time to make a new batch for the coming xmas season.
