Project Information
Normally I post my project in order as they were built. Right now I'm running a little behind, but I wanted to skip to this one I just built. It is a form of my Locker murphy bed Yankee's edition. This customer wanted something a little more vintage looking. Their Yankee decor wasn't the new crisp lines and my original style just wouldn't work.
I had the idea for a vintage version of the locker for a while now. First off, I love oak that has been painted. There is something about the texture. So that is what I used. I really envision, for this look, the oak wooden fold down ball park chairs that have been weathered and even though it has multiple layer of wood you still see the weathered grain.
Making it look old
To make it look old, I did a few things. I antiqued the white. Started with a couple coats of lacquer under coat, sanded it, glazed with with golden oak, and then top coated it. If you noticed I tried to keep a thicker glaze on the edges to make it look more natural.
The blue was may standard blue. I sanded on the finish to dull it down a little.
The letters and graphics are normally done with vinyl PSA backed pieces that we add. To keep with the old look I needed everything painted. I wasn't about to hand paint everything, so I had the reverse of the normal pieces cut. I used them as a mask. Once the letters and graphics were dry, I sanded off parts to make them appear old and warn.
This is by far my favorite. I like that so much I would like to make that as my "standard version"http://www.wwbeds.com/locker. I does have a lot of increased labor, so for now I'll still offer my other as the standard and call this one my Vintage style.
