Terrific workmanship. Love the wenge edge treatment and the blue pig suede really sets off the interior. Are those the SmartHinge from Andrew Crawford? I’ve used those and wouldn’t think of using anything else? Any hints on how you went about inlaying the lettering? Really impressive piece!!

Cheers

Yes the are from Andrew Crawford. Ian Hawthorn also makes some equally as good which I sometimes use. The inlay was cut out on my laser, pretty simple and a lot quicker than doing it by hand.

Beautiful piece. Great job on the edge treatment and the banding on the lid.

Beautiful job Alan. Every detail is well done. I’m sure they will treasure this.

Does the laser cut both the recessed areas and the pieces that fit inside? The suede has some thickness, is it wrapped around some thin stock before gluing to the sides? It’s really well done.

Yes,the laser cuts out the letters and the veneer they fit into. The suede gets fixed onto some self adhesive card and the top edge of the suede gets wrapped over and fixed down with some double sided tape. This give the suede a neat rounded top edge when it's fixed into the box.
