Project Information

This is another simplicity clock designed by Clayton Boyer and built by me !!! : ) I went with the USMC thime on this one and it turned out better than I had expected. All the black is oak with 2 coats of ebony stain. The red is bloodwood with a polyurathine spray . The gold is birtch ply hand painted with a gold paint to keep the paint away from the gears to reduce friction. The eagle, globe and anchor on the pendulum was the moast challenging part of this clock, the bloodwood is not east to cut into small patterns, it breaks verry easely.

The last clock I built I used a Sears scrollsaw I bought for $30 on craigslist .That saw ended up in the scrap metal bin at work after my 3 year old domestic terroist pulled it off he shelf and broke sevral pices including the arm and base. That just gave me an excuse to get a new one. Tool gloat time, I got the dewalt 20" scrollsaw with the stand that I bolted to the floor so it will not fall over. The Dewalt scrollsaw is a great saw and is 100 times better than the old sears one. If you want to build a wooden gear clock using a good scrollsaw is a must, it makes the clocks run so much smoother. I could not have done the numbers and the EGA without it. Semper fi and thanks for looking.

Nice looking clock. After seeing Charles' excellent clocks, I've really wanted to make my own… nice job finishing this thing. I'll bet it takes an incredible amount of work.

That looks fantastic!!! I have wanted to build a wooden clock for a while but have not worked up the courage to do it. I also have that Dewalt scroll saw and love it.

If you would, could you give us some idea of the number of man-hours it took to construct this clock?
