Project Information

This piece is about 43 years old. It was my first segmented piece. When I was turning it,it decided to take a walk across the shop-exploding against the shop wall. When you have a lot of hours invested,it is difficult to see the humor in the situation. I collected all the pieces and glued it back together. With a lot of sanding, cussing and finishing I was able to save the piece. Live and learn.

Great looking piece Jim and well worth the effort to save it. One nice thing about exploding segmented turnings is that they almost always break up at the glue joints giving a 2nd chance at success, whereas solid pieces are a different matter altogether. A lot of folks probably think that segmented turning is something new, but my inspiration to begin woodturning was based on segmented wooden bowl that my older brother turned in school, and that was almost 70 years ago!

Looks like you did a good job saving the urn. Don't wait another 43 years to post more projects :)
