Project Information

CBS and 60 Minutes is one of my favorite shows. This is the second piece inspired by that show. Last month they did a followup on the cities of Detroit, Flint, Newark, Baltimore and others suffering from leaded pipes in their cities. I would not think this will be very well received in the woodturning world. A challenge to make something to a theme. Thanks to Max Brosi for sharing the knowledge to make the pipe fitting.

The piece stands 6 inches tall and about 6 inches in length Pipe fitting is wet Madrone turned as well as the piece of pipe. Fitting is painted with reactive pant. The drop of water is sprayed blue airbrush and then it is dry brushed with silver metallic paint.
This is the second piece from the 6o Minutes show the first being Plastic the Curse of Mother Earth. One more in work and should be done next week. stay tuned. Yes critique and comment welcome.

You have been very busy lately Ron. a great lot of projects. How do you work the wet Madrone? You get so many shapes from it, does it work like putty? Keep them coming, very interesting. Cheers.

Fascinating, and moving piece, Ron. But not a word on the fashioning of the big water drop?

awesome project !!

are there any photos of the piece actually being made and painted ???
and the reactive pant is excellent.
I suggest that if anyone has never tried the reactive pant to get
a kit and experiment with it. it is really great stuff.

again, excellent job !

John I do have some photos of this piece as it changes. it tried to do a time lapsed but it did not work. I have about 5 coats of reactive Brass and Bronze on this piece. It takes some practice and the spray bottles are a problem. Let me see if I can post some photos here. Giver me a day or two

Thanks

John this is a link that shows how these pieces were made. It is only a 2 min video but gives you and idea what I did to create this piece. Thank you for the interest in this piece.

wow - that is so awesome, Ronald !!
thank you for taking the time to share the project.
it is not just a work of art - it makes a very strong statement that
millions of people can identify with that are affected by their
contaminated water systems.

I understand the coating part as I have done it before.
I just couldn't wrap my head around the "copper pipe" portion
to make it look so REAL !!
I have seen a lot of things turned on a lathe, but this one sets the bar.
thank you again for sharing and hope to see more of your projects.
you have almost 300 very impressive projects in your portfolio and each one
is awesome. but this one sends a more powerful personal message to many.
