Project Information

This was the third try at making this board for a friend at work.
She asked me if I could make a replacement for the slide out under the counter board she had.
Like a dummy I said no problem. It was nothing but a problem after that. The first board I had all glued up ( not accounting for wood movement) and it split up the center. The second one I basically made a mess out of trying to make bread board ends. Three's a charm. It came out pretty good, couldn't seem to get a good pic to show it.
Both ends are dowel pegged tenons, the center is bookmatched hard maple, the end with the maple goes under the counter so it will never be seen, the rest is walnut.
Finished with butcher block finish. Thank God I can finally get rid of this board.
Thanks for looking,

Lisa

A nice looking board. If you'd a put the "eyes" in the front, you could have had fun making a critter!

Lisa,
In this case it is the destination and not the journey! The result is very impressive!
I particularly like the bookmatch with the "eyes". And, of course, I love the combination of walnut and maple.
Nice work. Everything is a learning experience!

if it wasn't for learning ,
what would we do ?

and now you have some ' extra wood ' ,
to make something else from !

Thanks everyone !! : )
I gave this to her today, she was thrilled.
Not sure if it was because she liked the board or
because she has been without hers whilst I made this one.
She also bought a Wood Whisperer style cutting board of maple and walnut to match,
for the counter top.
I got some jingles, saving for a cabinet table saw….almost there.
I think I might be able to order it next week. Yippee : )

Lisa: Great looking sliding board.

I made a wooden counter top about 3' long and it split right down the middle. That's when I found out about wood shrinking. It sure make it's self know in an abrupt way.

You should be able to get a great buy at the wood show.
