Project Information

A few years back we went to an Old Time Fiddlers Jam with our Grandson. By the end of the session our grandson was tapping the floor with his foot, and he showed an interest. The fiddlers were all ages. The thought was to find an old cedar cigar box to make an old time fiddle, but couldn't find one. We web searched for idea's and instructions. Used shop scraps (walnut, fir, curly eastern maple) StewMac for strings and tuners. The finish was a first time for French Polish. That year it was his birthday gift. The interest with the Uke didn't last too long as he switched to a clarinet for school band instead. He still keeps it in his room, maybe someday he'll pick it up again. Thanks for looking.

Good looking uke Jeff. They are fun to build and play. What size is it? Looks like a concert or tenor?

Beautiful work. Wish there was a way for you to upload a video. U mentioned him liking a fiddle. Something that I've considered, on the next build u might do a mandolin and just use 4 strings, same fingering position from mandolin to fiddle.

Very nice creation. I'm sure your grandson will surprise you by playing it one day. Until then he will surely appreciate an instrument made by his Grandpa!

That looks like some fine work! I'm too intimidated to ever try making something musical, too many ways to screw it up 8^)
