Showcase cover image for Two Rolling Stands

Project Information

I built two stands today with wheels. One for my compound miter saw and one for my router table. Two of the wheels are locking on opposing sides. I used scrap 2×4s with 3/4 ply.I assembled everything with pocket screws which made life easy! I have very limited Man Cave space so I need to roll these in and out through a 32" door into my patio. They store neatly in one corner of my 100 sq ft shop and give me more room and less back aches.

I have two more to build
, one for my scroll saw and one for my planner.

I have two roller stand extensions so I'm good to go when working long pieces.

I guess you might say I am creating a rock and roll workshop since I usually have some oldies going in the background. ;)

I may add shelves later, but right now I need to finish organizing my shop before I go into the hospital April 8th. I wont be making much saw dust for a few weeks after that.

That is a lot of wasted space underneath your tables. You need to do something about that. :)

If you have more to build, take a look at mine. It is based on a plan in a magazine, but there are a lot of other folks that have made something similar.

Double up on the tools. :)

Or, make a mobile workstation like this (or something similar). It works great!!!

Good luck. I too, have a cramped work aea so everything I have is on wheels except for the workbench/outfeed table.

Note: The oldies are playing in my shop also.

MT, I agree about the wasted space under, but my scrap pile is only so big. I can't just go out and buy lumber whenever I need to, but I like your suggestions. That's why I left room to add a shelf and I'll also do a few more things as I can. I'll make you a deal, you can pay for my cancer treatment or send me some scrap. ;)

Great work, I used this same construction and put drawers under them for more storage.

Good job, Steve. Like Lynn said, Rock On! As you know, I suffer with a "shop too small" like you do, so having your tools on wheels is a huge help. My table saw, jointer and bandsaw are on wheels. BTW, Mike's suggestion of a "Flip Top" workstation reminded me that I've been thinking about building at least one of those for myself.
