Project Information

Construction Notes: This design comes from PlansNow website and is recommended for those with at least intermediate skill level. The plans are easy to follow and come with photos to assist the craftsman.

All materials came from my local Lowe's store. The sides of each section and cleats are oak plywood. The doors and all trim are solid oak. The glass is 1/8" thick (also from Lowe's) and held in place with strips via hot glue. The trim was custom cut on the router table according to the plan specs.

The finish is a hearty coat of Dark Walnut stain, followed by three coats of semi-gloss polyurethene.

The total cost of materials was approximately $225 for each unit. The construction of both took approximately 30 labor hours, less sanding, finish and hardware (another 12 hours).

Tools used: Tablesaw, router, miter saw, drill, planer.

Additional Notes: I deviated from the plans and cut the cabinet parts exactly 1/4" shorter in length than called for. This allowed me to get three pieces of the bottom cabinet panel (1/4" plywood) from a standard 8' sheet of plywood instead of two (rather than 32", I cut 31 3/4" to allow for kerf and squaring).

This is a favorite project, as these are numbers 5 & 6 that I have built. Building two at once is the best approach, as it saves extensive set-up time. Once you build one, you'll wish you had built two. :)

Thanks for looking!
