Project Information
Wood And Materials Used
Maple, Jo Sonja iridescent paints
Tools Used
Bowl gouge, roughing gouge, parting tool
This is the second one of these I’ve done. This one is 10 ½” x 2”. It originally was turned with a bead on the outer and inner rim. The plan was to do some form of relief carving between the beads but my skill doing that is still in the neophyte stage. So I turned away the beads and used the Jo Sonya iridescent paints (turquoise, green and red) over a gloss black base layer. The maple portions are finished with Odies Oil and once that’s cured I do 4 light coats of lacquer. The iridescent paint effect is quite something and changes depending on the angle of the light.
