Project Information

these started as a test to see if my saw can cut good 60 degrees. thats why they are made of scraps (the wood is black walnut, featureless Rimu and DF).

they turned out nice so I finished them. I made one mistake with the two coasters on the right - I made the routing on the wrong side, so I can't put all of them together for the optical illusion.

Very clever!
Even though the rimu is 'featureless', the color is still a nice contrast to the others.
Clearly you can cut 60 degree pieces

Those turned out great. Thanks for sharing this. It looks like a great way to use some scraps too. I wonder if my saw can cut 60* accurately too, hmmm….

thank you all. it is a great wway of using scraps and it is very easy to make.
one or two thinks I forgot to mention:
finished with several layers of gloss wipeon poly.
to glue this easily, screw two pieces to plywood covered with packing tape to create a "template" for one third of the diameter. put the 3 pieces with glue against it and clamp with the cleats. this creates even pressure.
