Even though the rimu is 'featureless', the color is still a nice contrast to the others.
Clearly you can cut 60 degree pieces

thank you all. it is a great wway of using scraps and it is very easy to make.
one or two thinks I forgot to mention:
finished with several layers of gloss wipeon poly.
to glue this easily, screw two pieces to plywood covered with packing tape to create a "template" for one third of the diameter. put the 3 pieces with glue against it and clamp with the cleats. this creates even pressure.

Great use of scaps, and we all need to use the coasters!
