Project Information

Decided to make something special for a 8 year old Great-Grandson from Canada who had never visited before. Chest was made from a Black Walnut board given to me a while ago and stored until it told me what to make.

Original pieces were 7/8" thick but box looked too heavy. A little jointing and planing and 1/2" thickness looked much better. Flocking was trimmed after these pictures were taken..

He seemed very pleased and before he left, the box was full of "treasures" from his visit…

Nice work. I've got a request from my grandkids for treasure chests. Your design just might fill the bill for me.

Very nicely done . I have wanted to do one of these but always thought of the curved top which I am not sure I am ready to tackle just yet , this top looks to a little bit more doable for me right now.

Shiver me timbers, Carl, but this be an awesome box of treasure, matee. Congratulations on a fine job and a great design. I especially like the brass plates and the choice of hardware … thoughtful choices there. This is a well deserved "Top Three."

This looks authentic, appears to me to be as nice as an arched top, and is much more straight forward to build.

What are the angles on the top boards?

What was your source for the hardware and the plates?

What are the over-all length, width, and height dimensions?

Keep boxing and keep posting.
