Great job! I'm sure he'll love it. I"m trying to complete one for my daughter now - a little more work than I'd figured. Where'd you get the hinges?

Rockler. They were pricey but very nice. One down fall is they are designed to work with 3/4 in stock only.

Very unusual looking chest, but it looks great, kinda like a pirate chest. What other color would a pirates chest be? Nice work. As long as he's happy.

The Bosch miter saw is great. my only complaint is how much room it takes up. As for why stain rather than paint. I really would rather see the grain than just paint. There are 3 coats of minwax Ebony stain on the chest followed by 3 sprayed coats of waterbased poly, no prestain.
