This chest was made for a couple's firstborn baby boy. They are doing a pirate theme in his room and wanted a toy chest that looks like an old pirate treasure chest. The body is made from pine shelving boards, knots, cracks, splits, and all. "The more rustic, the better." they said. To simulate the leather straps, I used 1/4 inch plywood with a straight grain. I colored it with a red oak stain. The handles are 5/8 natural rope. I couldn't find a latch I liked, and since their son is here now, I gave it to them and told them I would install one on it if they found one they liked. It measure roughly 3×2x2.
