Project Information

The third in my pink Hot Rod series is a 1927 T Coupe made from MDF and spray painted with acrylic house paint. I'm making these from MDF as an experiment after having other toy makers tell me how good it is. I picked up a bunch of it in the cull lumber pile at Home Depot. It was so cheap I had to give it a try. So far the end results have been great. I made a set of these for my grand son last year and so far he hasn't managed to do much damage to them past a few dings and dents.

What are the axles made from?
The axlws are birch axle pegs. I get them from http://www.craftparts.com/. My completely unscientific experimentation shows that independent wheels roll better/faster. This was tested by rolling a bunch of cars down a board with my grandson. Both racing them and looking to see which ones would roll the furtherest. I also put nylon washers between the wheels and the body. Makes them go faster and keeps the wheels from rubbing the body. These are meant to be played with and I want them to work well.

I'm pretty sure I used AP1005 or AP1010 both are usable for wheels with 1/4 inch axle holes. I bought the wheels and picked from the recommended pegs. If given an option I like to buy the longer ones. I can always make them shorter if needed.
