Project Information

#################################

DISCLAIMER:

Before calling the doctors, mind you that I'm not the guilty one: Martyn started it all here

#################################

That being said, let's jump right into the project.

Made from, well, a toothpic. 4 mm height by 2 mm wide, inner volume is 2,5 mm height by 1,1 mm wide (around 2,75 cubic mm). Top and bottom sanded.

Made in around 5 minutes, the longest part was actually taking the pictures and posting this.
Micro-photographs courtesy of my 50 mm prime lens, butted to my zoom lens.

So far I believe you are in the lead for the smallest box but Martyn has the most complicated one!

Sure, his Omega is wonderful. By the way the technique he used to make the sides is used in luthery to make rosettes for string instruments. His idea to make a wee box with the same technique was pure genius.

Ok it's not wood but paper, but I did fold this origami crane few years back.
Best thoughts,

Ohh. Mafe. I too have folded some very small cranes. I might try and top that one.

But, that toothpick-box is going to be very, very hard to beat. Even a single grain of rice, might not be smaller than the toothpick-box.

Please ! Would someone stop this man before he starts carving a miniature handplane out of a rice grain and use a sharpened needle as the iron ?

Edit : It seems that David got the same idea regarding a grain of rice.

BTW I cuold get even smaller than this "box" thingie, actually my smallest drill bit is 0,1 mm and I successfully made a 0,1 mm pin for a lid yesterday. The only problem being taking proper pictures. That's why I settled with this size, which, actually, matters ;p

Now that is impressive. I'll have to see what I can do in reply.

I'm sure you can do a splinter box quite easily.
