Project Information

Pencil Shave with Maple handles. I decided to epoxy the blad and handles on a 3/8" steel rod, insead of using thread rod.

I broke the plastic knob on the spindle lock rod for my Grizzly Lathe. So I replaced it with a turned Maple handle.

Also, I did not like using the spindle lock rod as a knock rod, so I made another from 3/8" rod and Maple handle.

Nice one!
I just finished mine last week, and was amazed how effective these are.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

Mads: I have been droolling over some of the toys you make. These are rather simple in comparison.

Bill: The Pencil shaver is a nice shaping tool. Think of it as a finer version of a spokeshave. The rods are used with my Grizzly lathe. The lower rod with the stepped tip fits into the side of the head stock as an indexing tool. Grizzly thougt it should also be used as a knockout rod to remove the centers from the mt2. Eventually using that tool as a knockout will mushroom the tip and make it useless as the machine's index. I had the 3/8" steel rod in my "scrap" bin so I decide to make a better knock rod for the Grizzly.

Thank you.
I think acually then you might like my sharpener tool, it is in the style of my scraper shaves, I'll post it soon.
But remember less is more! I acually admire your design here for it's simplicity.

I found the pencil sharpener at an estate sale for $0.50. I don't think it has sharpened many pencils. Cut my finger trying to take it apart.

This thing is real sharp. I used in on a piece of Ipe and it shaved nice tight thin curls.

Not sure how to sharpen it. As easy as these are to make, the blade may be disposable.

Great looking pencil scraper and well made .
Now I have to keep my eyes open for a sharpener and make myself one and put it to use.

Thanks

I'v been looking at spoke shaves, but this looks very doable with very little cost. Thanks for posting it.
