Project Information

I finished my tool cabinet today it's from wood magazine, worked out pretty well though I've learned somethings I will do different on my next cabinet based project. Most importantly the varnishing, I plan to varnish before glueing everything together. I have a really hard time varnishing these large cabinets once they are assembled just because they have to be sitting on the floor just for me to reach the inside center area.

I made a few mistakes but they're all cosmetic things, nothing that prevents it from being an awesome tool cabinet. I used 2 coats of shelac to finish it, I would have liked to use more but it was such a pain to varnish this thing I decided 2 coats was good enough.

Now I need to build the shell of the tool chest that this will be mounted on top of.

Very cool. You've got all kinds of room in there. I won't take long to fill it. Which volume of Wood Magazine?

Very nice.
I remember this from the magazine, I have done the same cabinet but I cheated, I simplify the double pegboard doors with a single plywood door. Still the same storing area but just plain.
Very well build

Pretty cool. I drew up plans for one almost the same 2-3 years ago and have never gotten around to it. My plan is to have a plywood back and pegboard sides with a place to hang some of those plastic bins under the bottom. Thanks for posting the pictures, now maybe I'll get to it.

I've been wanting to make one ever since I saw it in the magazine. Post us a few pics after you put some stuff in it.

@woodspar,
Originally that was the plan, but I had difficulty finding a good place to hang it so I made a cabinet for it to sit on http://lumberjocks.com/projects/44357 .. I'm going to add some drawers and such to the bottom portion.

That's really nice and it looks like it will hold a lot of tools.
