Up until last year I had been doing my projects in my garage, but my wife said she wanted her car in there. I bought a 12×24 kit shed on line and spent about 6 months putting it up. Naturally, before it was finished I was wishing I had built something bigger! However, it actually has some pretty good room. I insulated the walls, but not the ceiling…that may come later. I put up pegboard all around the main shop area and as I am retired, I got some luan underlayment and reversed it to sheath the walls. I have a basic Craftsman 10" tablesaw that is about 10 years old. I have quite a few DeWalt power tools (bought when I was still working!): two sanders, battery drill, 7 1/2" circular saw, and jigsaw; 10" sliding mitersaw (okay, its from Harbor freight, but it is pretty good after some fine tuning); a Ryobi drill press; finish air nailer; and various hand tools. I have a Craftsman router that is almost as old as I am and I am hoping to update it soon. Also on my wish list is a decent dust collector. My mini shop vacuum is getting tired (and I am getting tired of cleaning it every other day!).

Great shop, I would have made mine 16'x24' but code restricted me to a 12'x16' without a permit. No permit no extra cost :)

Tom, this is a pretty nice looking shop. I have always wished I had a stand alone shop since I get yelled at if I "forget" and fire up my power tools before my wife is up in the morning. The pegboard that you have in there is a good way to add an economical wall covering that also doubles as way to organize/store your hand tools.

Thanks for the pictures. I enjoyed taking a look at your shop.

What is it with the womenfolk insisting that the garage be used for cars? The driveway works just as well for parking!

Nice space you've got there. :)

Welcome to Lumberjocks, Tom. Your shop building looks great and you also have some nice tools and equipment. Maybe later to could add onto the side for more space later. My shop is small, too but we can manage if we stay organized and focused.

very nice clean setup, I like your saw that was my first saw ever and now I have a unisaw from delta I wish I could've kept my craftsman though. My thing with that saw was I had to keep setting the fence parallel to the blade every time I moved it plus it was under powered it's listed at 3hp but it's more like 1hp and under I would guess. All in all it's a cool saw but not for fine furniture making.

Looks good to me! If you can insulate / radiant barrier your roof. Summers can be brutal, without A/C you may not be able to work in there at all, and with it, you will have problems affording to run it… I did R30 / radiant barrier and insulated my rollup doors last year. On Sunday it was 105 deg F here, the shop was 84 before I turned the A/C on…

Tom, thanks for the comment on my workbench. I'm looking forward to working countless hours on that bench. I am also in the works of shopping for a dust collector like you because I'm tired of cleaning up shop every night. I found good reviews on the 1.5hp shop fox w/ a 30 micron bag that is $270 on amazon, the 30 micron bag is the only downfall i can see but the price might make up for it. I just need to pull the trigger on it.
