Project Information

Tissue Box Made with Curly Maple and Mahogany. A locking pin system keeps the cover from being removed accidentally. See how the locking pin works >here<
The finish is spray on Lacquer.
Hope you like it!

Update;
I added two more spring pins to this box to make the movement to open it a little stiffer or Harder to open. This helps in having it accidental opening if someone were to pick the box up to admire it. This worked so well I added more spring pins to my other boxes.

Another great creation 'shaver.

Are you paranoid about nose protection? Might be cheaper to consult a NE&TS (Nose, Ear & Throat Specialist).

I hope you realise,

there may be a few nefarious LJ members than now know your secret… apologies to all you petty thiefs.

Thank you Bob,
I got away from using foam and went with wood lined with felt instead. I think it looks much better. No matter how I cut the foam rubber it looked shabby!

Thank you Joe
"Just like the Auto industry a new model every year" LOL Joe I think your on to something! I retired from GM 18 years ago!

Thank you Tony
I need to take some time out now and fix the motor armature on my saw it's eating up brushes like a hungry dog.

That is a really nice tissue holder and the hidden compartment makes it extra special. I hope you never have to use it, but it is best to be prepared. It is a different world out there from when we grew up.

Cheers, Jim

The tissue box is a testimony to your quality craftsmanship Tony. I especially like the video explanation of the locking feature.

Tissue boxes are just the right size for a small iron!

Thank You Jim
I agree that the world different place now and we need to keep dodging the bad stuff more and more these days especially if your life has been threatened.

Thank You Jeff
The locking pin works well but I'm looking to develop a stronger spring pin so the push to unlock the box is much stiffer. an idea is bouncing around in my mind at the moment.

Thank You Kiefer
Everyone loves the Curly Maple it's a great choice of wood for this project. I'm thinking about making a stronger spring pin (somehow) I need to sleep on this one a bit more!!! I think the one I use now is just a little too weak.

Thank You socrbent
Glad you like the video!

Thank You Tony
Yes this wood is so nice and I only have a little left. I had some really thin re-sawed pieces leftover so I laminated them to some non-curly maple to get the 7/16" thickness I needed. I just couldn't scrap it.

Thank you pottz
I wish we lived close to each other. Together we could have a blast in the shop! No no no not a blast from a gun! LOL! I'm working on making a simple easy to make box maybe one that I just cut an 1 1/2" off the top of the box and slap hinges on it. The pin system is not easy to get lined up and it slows me down quit a bit. If you make a box I'll send the pins for your box.

Thank you controlfreak
Maybe the intruder will sneeze and I'll offer him or her a tissue. LOL! "control freak" are you my son in law? LOL!

Thank You Lee
I find myself constantly thinking of a better way to make a locking system or improving the one I have here. I think the spring pin needs to be stronger. My mind won't stop thinking about it LOL! ....Talk about self torture.

@ Pottz! Good one!
