Project Information

This tissue box is made with Curly Maple and Walnut and is similar to the last box I made. The tray under the 1/2 box of tissues leaves a little space to hide some small things if you use a 1/2 box of tissues in it. If you leave the tray out a larger box of tissues will fit.
I kept the walnut splines straight unlike the last box I made. People said the splines cut on an angle looked crooked and not done intentionally; I agree straight splines look much better.
I used a piano hing to attach the cover and finished the box using spray on lacquer.
Thanks for looking!

Beautiful box. Love that hidden storage feature. Love the wood choices and joinery. Interesting with the hinge - how you did that feature. Nice!

It was nice getting some shop time in; it's been really hot here in the south this summer. Way too hot to stay in the Shop/Garage before fermentation set in. LOL!

Thanks, Lee, Joe, Jim, Art Gary, Jerry, Eric, Tom and Pottz.
Pottz, I hope that pest Ted has left the building.

Yup pretty stupid posting the same thing over and over again. He's just wasting his time and revealing himself as a Spammer. Hope he took a hike forever!

yeah hopefully cricket and her team can figure a way to stop the spammers.maybe make it so a new member must make a certain amount of posts and cant go more until cricket approves them.that way a robo cant just make hundreds of spam posts.i dont envy her problem.

I liked the crooked splines, Tony. Straight ones look good, too, of course. Have you tried dovetailed?

Pretty cool and inovative way of opening tissue box… Does lid open when you pull tissue…shouldn't magnet be here to prevent that…??I like that white maple stripe on handle….realy great looking detail!

Thank You….
Bob, Kiefer, Mark, Pottz and Ivan,

@Kiefer,

One extreme to another both not good working conditions. I thought about putting an AC unit in the wall but our Sub Association won't allow having a unit sticking out a window or opening in a wall. Cooler weather is on the way for us. I hope you get some heat soon!

@Mark, Thanks for the vote on the crooked splines that's one for box #1. I'm pulled in both directions on this one plus straight is easier. Dovetails would look great too! I must admit I have never tried my hand at them.

@Pottz,
LOL not a joke at all Pottz! My last box had some straight splines and some cut on an angle making them look like I made a mistake to some jockers. Did you see my last box?

@Ivan,
The walnut top is heavy enough so it doesn't move when pulling a tissue out of the top; plus the tissues pull out with no effort. But If I thought it needed a magnet that would work too!
