Project Information

These carvings all came from the same black walnut round. Every time I sliced off a piece to shape the Indian a new shape emerged in the scrap. The pieces just formed themselves. I couldn't find the heart to throw them away. They kept staring at me and it was getting to my nerves. So I scratched at them a little and threw some oil on them. It must of satisfied them because I returned to carving my Indian. Walnut has been very fun to carve and lets your chisel track and cut nicely. This wood has proven to me to be the most difficult to stay to one image. I could never technical carve this wood I would loose my mind and never even make the block out. This Indian reminds me of a Indian I once saw in the clouds. So I named him Thunder Cloud. Best wishes to all and a Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The eyes, Michael. They look right into my soul.
I love to see all of your work but these ancient men of the plains really speak to me of the hard lives they have led and the knowledge and experience they have gained. You give them life.

Merry. Christmas to you and Terry Lynne and have a great 2015.

outstanding carvings. The two figure heads are superb, especially the piercing look of the eyes.
